Description:

Beautiful porcelain stein gifted to a 'Luftshiffer (or 'Airship Pilot') Lang', approx. 7 in. tall x 4.25 in. dia., bearing the regiment and date '1. Marine Luftschiffer Regt. (Tondern) 1912-13' near the upper lip. The center bears an illustration of a flying zeppelin, marked 'L23' on its side, in front of a bright blue sky. Each side bears a depiction of an airship, a warship, a biplane, and a clipper ship, and beneath it lies a banner reading 'Reminder of My Service'. A list of crewmembers has been applied near the handle, and the top and bottom of the stein and the exterior of the handle bears a band of gilt laurels. The very bottom lip of the piece bears an additional gilt band. The original metal lid is topped by a flying eagle, and is surrounded by various laurels in relief and the label: 'HOCH LEBE DER RESERVEMANN' ('LONG LIVE THE RESERVE MAN'). The lid bears some of its original gilding, particularly towards the handle and the top portion of the eagle. The bottom of the stein's interior bears an impressed figure in a seated position. Some spots of staining from use, else fine. Ex: Craig Gottleib.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
