Description:

PRESENTATION S.A. DAGGER
Presentation S.A. dagger by F. Dick, Esslinger, presented to the winner of a ski competition at Bad Reichenhall, just a short distance from Adolf Hitler's home at Berchtesgaden. The blade bears the usual engraved motto 'Alles fur Deutschland' with the darkening of the lettering rather worn. The reverse of the blade bears an engraving: 'S.A. SKIWELTKAMPF STURMBANN III J3 REICHENHALL 1936' A lighter engraving beneath the above, rather poorly accomplished and no doubt added later, reads: 'Halzer Brigadefuhrer'. The first letter of the engraving is also slightly off, but this being a nominal presentation and the S.A. being on its heels at the time, it is doubtful the presenters would have scrapped the piece because of this trivial fault. All of the lettering shows age patina. The dagger itself is in fine condition, the nickle fittings retaining all of their detail, with the pommel nut showing no signs of having been turned or forced. The S.A. button and eagle are likewise fine and fit perfectly into the brown wood grip. The matching scabbard with hanger is present, paint nearly 100% intact and with only the the tiniest indent visible near the tip. It should be noted that the engraving on at least one other dagger from 'Halzer' has been debated, therefore this example has been estimated accordingly and is sold as is.
