PRESENTATION PHOTOGRAPH BOOK OF MUSSOLINI IN BERLIN, 1937
In 1936, Germany and Italy signed a military alliance, creating the so-called Berlin-Rome Axis. In September, 1937 Benito Mussolini's made a state visit to Germany, meeting with Hitler in Munich and touring other parts of Germany with his fellow dictator. During the state visit, Mussolini received the acclamations of 'millions' of Germans. The visit's choreography combined rituals of traditional state visits with a new emphasis on the personality of both leaders and their alleged ‘friendship', emblematic of the ‘friendship' between the Italian and German peoples. Offered here is a presentation photograph album presented by the German Fascist Inspectorate to D'Amato Ruggero, head of the Fascist Party of Monaco. The 12.5 x 8.75 in. album contains 40 photographs of the visit taken by Italian official photographer Angelo Zappantonio. The photos, generally 5.25 x 7 in. and larger, depict Hitler and Mussolini inspecting each other's officers and honor guards, military bands, SS troops, etc., Count Cianno greeting Hitler, S.A. leaders and Italians saluting each other, meetings and other social events, a gathering which include Rudolf Hess and Black Shirts, etc. Covers a bit worn, contents are in fine condition.
