Description:

PORFIRIO DIAZ Interesting D.S. "Porfirio Diaz" as President of Mexico, 3pp., folio, Mexico City, December 11, 1895, in Spanish, establishing title for mining rights for The Trinidad Mine, a prosperous swath of land in southern Sinaola State bulging with gold, copper, and other metals that still operates today. The folio document itself is impressive, with large ink stamps denoting the role of the Durango region local government and 1895 paper stamps of various peso amounts marked by the Secretary of Fomento, Colonizacion, y Industria. The title is signed over to "Ignacio Flores", but the intended buyer is the New York-based mining interest The Guggenheim Group, linked with Rockefeller's American Smelting and Refining Company (ARASCO). Age toned with moderate folds and slight soiling along right edge, none affecting signature, else fine.
