Description:

1077. POPE PIUS VI PAPAL BULL (1717-1799) Pope from 1775 to 1799, captured by Napoleon's forces and died in captivity. His tragic pontificate was the longest of the 18th century. Manuscript D.S., 1p. 17" x 8" parchment, May 24, 1791, a special favor granted to a deacon whose name appears to be "Salomone", conferring upon him priestly orders and the capacity to say Mass at the altar. Effectively, it is a promotion, with no specific reason set forth other than references to the deacon's great merits and virtues. Possibly signed by a Cardinal at conclusion. Boldly penned, one tiny hole in text, else very good. $300 - 400
