Description:

POL POT
SALOTH SAR (1925 – 1998) 'Pol Pot', Cambodian Chinese revolutionary who led the Khmer Rouge from 1963 until his death. Pol Pot became leader of Cambodia in mid-1975 and from 1976 to 1979 served as Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea, imposing a murderous version of agrarian socialism forcing urban dwellers to relocate to the countryside and work in collective farms. Incredibly rare signed photo, 8 x 6 in. b/w, depicts a 'benevolent' Pol Pot seated on a log in a jungle clearing, also showing a group of followers clustered together in the background, circa 1976. Signed in black ink at bottom with fine contrast. Fine condition. Originally part of a German political collection sold at auction in Europe in the 1980s and now being de-accessed from a private collection. It is believed this is only one of two known examples that Pol Pot has signed, the other being a different image. Very fine condition.
