Description:

696. OSWALD POHL (1892 - 1951) Head of the Economic Office of the SS and ultimate overseer of the concentration camp system. It was Pohl who turned his victims' dental gold, eyeglasses, hair, etc. into cash for the SS, using the infamous "Max Heiliger" Swiss accounts. Captured and executed in 1951. Rare typed L.S. on his SS-Gruppenfuhrer letterhead, 1p. 4to., Munich, Apr. 12, 1938 to "Comrade Bork", in German. Pohl sends his friend birthday greetings, adding: "...We have now worked already nearly five years together. Both separately, but nevertheless we march in the same direction. And we have had the same concerns and annoyances over and over again. And we remain the same good friends. Therefore I would like at this 46th birthday to give you the enclosed picture as an indication of my special solidarity in comradeship. I know that we will forever remain what we have always been: honest, quiet soldiers of Adolf Hitler..." Light soiling, else very good.           $500 - 700
