Description:

An incredible relic, an ornate silver pocket watch supposedly belonging to SS-Untersturmfuhrer HANS WEISSENBOCK. The timepiece, 2 in. dia., bears two concentric clock faces, with one conveying the hour and the minute, with a smaller dial conveying the seconds. The reverse side bears a silver flap with a hinge on the bottom, the exterior of which bears the engraved surname 'WEISSENBOCK' next to an impressed mobile swastika, all atop shallow vertical grooves for design purposes. When opened, the interior of the flap bears the impressed label 'METALL', a mark 'JE' surrounded by a circle, and a serial number '77216'. Impressed into the watch itself is the italicized script 'CYLINDER...10 STEINE'. Very good condition overall. Functionality not tested. SS-Untersturmfuhrer Hans Weissenbock served from June 1937 to September 1944, spending the vast majority of his career under SS-Obergruppenfuhrer AUGUST HEISSMEYER, including combat duty in the Crimea with the 1st SS Cavalry Regt. for which he would receive a German Cross in Gold, a one-month stint with the L.S.A.H., and in a position teaching racial theory for the National Political Institutes of Education (NPEA). The goal of these schools was to train future leaders, and especially given the influence of the SS, it was hoped that graduates would choose a career in the SS or police. The volume of Weissenbock's material was released at auction some years ago, and this piece was apparently among it.
