Description:

PLAQUES HONORING MAO CAST OF METAL FROM DESTROYED ENEMY AIRCRAFT
Pair of metal plaques, one rectangular and the other in the shape of a star, measuring 9" x 5" and 5" dia., respectively. Both bear profile portraits of Mao Zedong, and the rectangular plaque is inscribed: "Sailing at Sea Needs Helmsman", above a scene with an island. The reverse of this plaque reads: "Souvenir of the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Vietnam - Chinese Logistics Department, 1967", indicating that the metal used in its creation was taken from American planes shot down in Vietnam. The star-shaped plaque is unmarked. Both were once partially colored with red paint, which has now mostly disappeared. Some wear and soiling from age, else very good.
