Description:

451. CAMILLE PISSARRO (1830-1903) French painter and contemporary of Monet, identified with the Impressionists and later with pointillism. Superb association A.L.S. signed twice "C. Pissarro", 4pp. 8vo., Paris, Jan. 18, 1896 to his daughter Julie mentioning some of the most important Impressionists of the era. In part: "...I just received ...the letter of Mrs. Thavenet. I hope that this tart will be able to go out with me tomorrow , without too much inconvenience, in any case we won't have to walk too much...I wrote a note to Mrs. Perry...I will pay her a visit with my daughter in her studio...I saw Oller yesterday, he spoke about Cezanne who was supposedly fantastic. He was even worse than he was with Renoir. He brought to Oller to [?] and left him there in extraordinary circumstances...Aguiar came to spend a few days in Paris and he saw Cezanne, he is convinced that he is ill. Anyway, this poor Cezanne is furious with all of us, even with Monet who really has been kind to him. I give your Portier's letter. Do what you want with the 'Eventail'. I don't understand why you need that letter...I took a thousand francs from dear Durand..." Near fine. Pissarro and Cezanne had been friends for years - Pissarro had demonstrated to Cezanne the Impressionist style, and had introduced Cezanne to Manet and Degas. Puerto Rican Impressionist Francisco Oller was a friend of both Pissarro and Cezanne. $1,500-2,500
