Description:

Great condition British Army, Blue Service Dress Uniform, once belonging to Pioneer Corps Colonel William Freeman, who was later promoted to Brigadier General. The tunic bearing buttons of the Edward II style (post 1954), red felt collar tabs, and deluxe slip-on epaulettes, each with two matching gold crowns found below a gold Edwardian crown. Hung around his left shoulder is a lanyard for the award of a French Croix de Guerre medal. Each cuff has the standard double buttons as is correct, and each lower sleeve also has the correct scallop overlay. There are also two blacked metal belt hooks sewn in at the waist line. Three award ribbons are sewn above the top left pocket flap, denoting reception of the following medals: the '1939-45 Star Medal', the 'Africa Star Medal', the 'Defense Medal' and the '1939-45 War Medal'. The uniform bears a full-type lining, and is probably made out of artificial silk or rayon. The belt hooks have been sewn in there are no access port holes for these belt hooks. An interior pocket bears a bevo-type embroidered tailor's tag, and hand inked on this tag is '6-2-59 G. Wello (?), Brgg/465, Aldershot'. Inked inside a shoulder seam within one sleeve is 'Lt. W. Freeman'. This uniform includes its (often missing) removable collar, which is ink-stamped in two distinctly different fonts: 'Patrol 7' and 'Forsythe - 62', indicating its reissue. The collar area of this uniform has three out of five remaining metal collar attaching studs - more than enough to keep the removable white collar attached. Also included with this uniform are the original matching trousers, with the proper red side stripes and hand inked inside the waist area 'Lt. Freeman'. Fine condition throughout. Adding added provenance, the lot includes three photocopied papers. The first is a receipt from the 'Hotel Metropol', dated October 12th, 1972, addressed to 'Brigadier Freeman'. The second and third photocopies are of a September 24th, 1973 dated letter from a lady named 'Ann (?)' to a 'Bill' (presumably 'William Freeman'), referring to his plant cuttings from his garden. Finally, the lot is sold with a laundry tag, dated '6/61(?)', found in a pocket. From a major private collection on public display.
