Description:

PIERRE BONNARD
(1867 - 1947) French painter and a leader of the Nabis group and later an Intimist, his works demonstrate his mastery of light and use of subtle colors and abstract color forms. Humorous A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., [Paris, July 22, 1933], to fellow painter Francois Dolbeau. Bonnard advises the "starving artist", in part: "...I've written to one of my friends who is associated with the Salon d'Automne. I think you will be taken into consideration and I wish you good luck. But it's not the competitions that allow you to make a living. It would be better to have a commission from a macaroni merchant or a cafe concert star...". With original holograph envelope. Francois Dolbeau
