Description:

(1733 - 1804) American Revolution major general commanding the northern department, member of the Continental Congress and one of the first senators from New York. Good content war-date A.L.S. 'P. Schuyler', 1p. 7.5 x 11.5 in. [Albany], Feb. 5, 1775 [more likely 1776], to Captain Richard Varick (1753-1831) Revolutionary War officer, an aide to Benedict Arnold, and appointed by Washington to be Secretary for Continental Army records. Schuyler writes, in part: '...Inform Major Cady that the provision money is an account hereafter to be settled but no more billeting can be allowed than Congress has ordered...Inform the major that I expect that the men march immediately." Curiously, though the letter is dated 1775, docketing on the verso is dated February 5, 1776 which is more in line with the dates of Schuyler's service in the Northern Department.
