PHILIP LIVINGSTON (1716 - 1778) American merchant and signer of the Declaration of Independence, one of the founders of Columbia University. Partly printed D.S. "Phil. Livingston" together with other prominent New Yorkers including WILLIAM BAYARD, MARY VERPLANK, JOHANNES DE PEYSTER and others, 2pp. legal folio, [New York], Jan. 13, 1760, a receipt of Robert Hubbard of Middletown, Conn. for the sum of £7-3-9 in exchange for "one certain piece of land lying on the West Side of Connecticut River in said Middletown...". Signed on the verso by two unidentified Livingstons: Philip and Richard. Folds, some weak with partial separations, light soiling, else very good.
