Philip Kearny 1815-1862 Union major general who served in Mexico and in Napoleon III's guard, led with distinction in the Peninsula campaign, killed at Second Manassas. Good content A.L.S. signed twice in text and conclusion, 3pp. 4to., New York, June 7, 1841 Excellent content, in part: on my asking a recall of my resignation that they reappointed me rather against my express wishes... a disgraceful affair for all concerned... I have, thank God, some feeling & pride in my regiment, if none for my country. . [I] pledge my life for its glory... a charger is pretty essential for a dragoon... I apply to you for your Sympathies & assistance in obtaining a remount... [a] powerful, fleet & active beauty of a charger. . Kearny also gives detailed instructions as to the size of horse he requires and as to the method of payment which should be undertaken. Seal tear affects one word of text, oUtherwise very good, and quite scarce.
