Description:

PEN FROM LINCOLN'S TOMB USED BY LINDBERGH
An unusual association relic, a steel-nib pen purportedly used by Charles Lindbergh during his much-publicized air mail run from St. Louis to Springfield, Illinois in 1927, the home of Abraham Lincoln. The journey was held to commemorate his first air mail flight over Springfield on April 15, 1926. The pen is accompanied by two printed two-color postcard invitations to return to Springfield, with an image of Lindbergh and spaces to apply one's name. The group also includes a printer's proof of a special Springfield Air Mail cover honoring Lindbergh with a photo of him in the Spirit of St. Louis on the cover as well as the Aug. 10, 1927 issue of the Postmark dedicated to Lindbergh's arrival in Springfield. On the verso is an A.L.S. of Postmaster W. A. Sturger, Springfield, Aug. 15, 1927 to Herbert Wells Fay asking him to obtain an autograph of Lindbergh for him. Also included is an 8" x 10" telephoto of Lindbergh in the cockpit of a mail plane in St. Louis on Feb. 20 1928, with a caption. Also included in the group is a 5" x 24" blue ribbon to which is pinned a note, "WILEY POST Ribbon Cutting Ceremony" Sadly, the significance of the note and ribbon is lost to us. A fun archive of material, overall very good condition
