Description:

PEARL HARBOR SURVIVOR'S CAP
Bi-fold white and blue cap with gold piping once proudly worn by a Pearl Harbor veteran, bears a "Pearl harbor Survivors Association" embroidered patch and the same name embroidered thereon, also the name of the survivor's vessel, "USS PELIUS AS-14", adorned with several reunion badges and pins. Fine condition. The USS PELIAS (misspelled on the cap!), a submarine tender, arrived at Pearl two weeks before the attack. During the sneak attack her guns splashed one enemy torpedo plane, and damaged a second, as they made their deadly runs along the main channel little more than 100 yards from her port side. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.
