Description:

"PEACE MUST TRIUMPH OVER WAR"
Especially rare Chinese anti-American, anti-British poster condemning their 1958 military intervention in Lebanon. The 15" x 20 1/2" poster depicts figures in military garb standing atop the remnants of fortifications and holding banners reading: "Invade Lebanon" and "Invade Jordan". Bloody red waves surround them, and are emblazoned with the Chinese words for: "Opposition", "Protest", "Blame", and "Scold". At upper-right appears a joint declaration issued by Khrushchev and Mao: "The events in the Middle East only remind us that no national liberation movement can be stopped." This poster was issued in late summer, 1958 and was limited to only 6,500 copies. Three holes at top and bottom indicate that the poster was nailed to a wall or tree, and various period political cartoons are pasted to the verso: apparently this poster had been part of a large political scrapbook. The verso has been colored a flat gray, some of which intrudes upon the margins of the front of the poster, some wrinkling but generally very good. From a single collection obtained entirely in China pre-2000.
