Description:

PAVEL ROTMISTROV
(1901 - 1982) Marshal of the Soviet Union during World War II who was removed from his command as head of the 5th Guards Tank Army due to the high losses he incurred at the Battle of Minsk, only to reemerge as the first Marshal of Armored Troops in February, 1944. In 1962, he was appointed the first Chief Marshall of Armored Troops. Fine content T.L.S. 1p. 4to., March 17, 1967, to the editor in chief of a Russian military magazine concerning an article Rotmistrov published about Marshal of the Soviet Union V. K. Blyucher, in part: "...I received a critical letter about my article...printed in your magazine. I would like to say that everything I wrote down is accurate...and it is everything I know and viewed. I had worked with Blyucher for a year and, if Mr. Golovin knows much more than me, perhaps it will be better if you rewrite the article. According to my recollections...Blyucher was courageous and hardworking". It is almost shocking that Rotmistrov would defend Marshall Blyucher, a General who served on Stalin's tribunal during the Great Purge and who personally condemned Tukhacheusky, just prior to his own execution by firing squad! This document is boldly signed and in excellent condition.
