PAUL VON HINDENBURG
(1847-1934) German general and politician, crushed the Russians at Tannenburg and in Poland, forced to yield the Chancellor's office to Hitler in 1933. Partly-printed D.S. 1p. legal folio, Neudeck, July 11, 1934, a transfer of Major General Stephanus, Infantry Leader of the 7th Bavarian forces, to the office of the Chief of the Supreme Command, and simultaneously the promotion of Ritter von Schobert, Inspector of Infantry to the position of Leader of Infantry for the 7th Bavarian. Signed by Hindenburg with a huge 5.5 in. signature, and countersigned by WERNER VON BLOMBERG (1887-1946) Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander of the German Armies early in Hitler's regime, resigned following accusations that he had married a prostitute. Also signed by WERNER FREIHERR VON FRITSCH (1880-1939) Commander in Chief of the German Army who was highly critical of Hitler's intention to go to war. Accused by Himmler and Goering of homosexuality, von Fritsch was acquitted, joined his former artillery regiment in the field, and was killed in action before Warsaw. A fine assemblage of signatures! File holes at left, else fine.
