(1815 - 1863) Confederate brigadier general who commanded a brigade at Seven Pines and in the Seven Days, defended Marye's Height at Fredericksburg, and was killed at the Wheatfield at Gettysburg. Rare A.Ms. (unsigned), 2pp. legal folio, [Georgia], July 3, 1853, his draft plans for his orders as captain of the Columbus Guards militia, pertaining to a parade and other events celebrating Independence Day the next day. In part: '...Hd Qrs. 2nd Vol. Bat....Order No. 3. There will be a dress parade immediately after Troop tomorrow morning...the National Salute of 31 guns will be fired...The Declaration of Independence of the U.S. of America will be read...at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning at the platform near the encampment...' Much more. The verso includes heavily corrected additional notes mentioning blank cartridges, the display of the flag, etc. Fold split repaired on recto, folds and light toning, still very good.

Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
