Description:

(1895 - 1945) Gaulleiter of Westphalia-South, Gauleiter of Munich-Upper Barvia and Premier of Bavaria, mass-murdered defeatists and those who refused to join the Volkssturm, committed suicide. Fine content A.L.S. signed twice as S.A. Brigadefuhrer, 2pp. 4to., Dortmund, Aug. 24, 1934 to VIKTOR LUTZE (1890-1943), Gauleiter of the Ruhr and an early Hitler associate, Chief of Staff of the SA following Rohm's death until his own end in an automobile accident. In part: '...Chief of Staff! In a conversation that took place with me on August 3rd in Berlin, I explained ...that the accusations made against me by the Gau leadership of South Westphalia were untrue. They assured me...these accusations would be examined by the Supreme Party Court. In the meantime I have received the accusations and I have submitted my opinion to the Supreme Party Court. I was able to add approximately 40 affidavits to the evidence the the affidavits are false. The Supreme Party Court will have to make its decision in the next few days and acquit me of the accusations. My honor as a national socialist and S.A. leader has been violated without reason...the false insults could have cost me my life. You assured me at that time - Chief of Staff that after the decision of the Federal Court you were in favor of punishing such [accusers?]...However, the restoration of my leadership is only possible if I am given the opportunity to work in the SA again. Five hundred and fifty soldiers...served in the service of the Fuhrer at over 600 meetings and rallies during the war...I am convinced that I can serve the Fuhrer
with the best of my ability...I will never disappoint you...' Stamp dockets, punch holes in the left margin, near fine. Giesler was promoted to the rank of SA-Brigadefuhrer on 20 April 1934. During the Night of the Long Knives at the end of June 1934, due to being away on vacation, Giesler only narrowly escaped being arrested, and perhaps murdered, a fate the befell many other SA leaders. He was removed from his post as SA commander in Westphalia, and was assigned to a staff position in the SA central command. Brought before the Supreme Party Court by Josef Wagner, Gauleiter of gau Westphalia-South, on charges of planning an armed rebellion, Giesler was acquitted on the basis of insufficient evidence in April 1935.
