PAUL FRANK
(1828-1875) Union Brevet Brigadier General, fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, where he was wounded in action. Discharged for drunkenness by Hancock, but mustered out honorably and brevetted for meritorious action. War-date A.D.S. ‘Paul Frank Col. Comdg 1st Division, 2nd Army Corps.', 1p. 4to., Jan. 2, 1864, on official letterhead, in part: ‘…Mr. Wm. Behr, Suttler of the 98th Pennsylvania Vols is authorized to transport to the City of Washington one private horse with saddle and bridle, the property of the former Lieut. Col. C. G. Freudenberg 52 N.Y.V. now Major in the Invalid Corps…'. Charles G. Freudenberg (1833-?) took command of the 52nd at Gettysburg after the death of Zook, fighting against Kershaw. He was severely wounded in that battle, later commissioned into a reserve staff. Boldly penned and in very good condition.
