1277. GEORGE S. PATTON (1885-1945) "Old Blood and Guts" was one of the finest tank commanders in history, rolling his forces through Tunisia, Sicily, France and Germany until halted at the Rhine. Nice content war-date T.L.S. "G. S. Patton, Jr.", 1p. 4to., "APO 887 c/o Postmaster, N.Y.C.", Feb. 24, 1944, to Ellwood C. H. Maurer, in part: "...Please accept my thanks...I was a little boy during the Spanish-American War, but naturally I admired you veterans greatly, and I am delighted to find that some of you admire me...".
