Description:

331. GEORGE S. PATTON (1885-1945) "Old Blood and Guts" was one of the finest tank commanders in history, rolling his forces through Tunisia, Sicily, France and Germany until halted at the Rhine. His scarce franking signature "G. S. Patton 1st Lt., U.S.A." on an envelope addressed in his hand to his sister, "Miss Anne W Patton San Gabriel California". Patton was authorized to frank official mail only. Realizing that this letter was of a personal nature, he added the requisite 2 cent stamp to make it "legal". Bears a Columbus, New Mexico January 5, 1917 postmark. Bearing two examples of Patton's signature, once in the frank and again in the address. Light uneven toning, otherwise very good. $600-800
