Description:

PATRICK F. GARRETT(1850 - 1908) American frontier lawman who tracked down and killed Billy the Kid, he later organized the LS Pat Garrett Rangers to put down cattle rustling in the Texas Panhandle. A.D.S. "Pat. F. Garrett", 1p., 8 1/2" x 7", Lincoln County, NM, 1881, a Sheriff's Return penned on the verso of a Territory of New Mexico subpoena for two witnesses in a case pending before the court. Garrett writes in part "...I certify that I served the within subpoena on the within named Jose Cordova by reading the same to him on the 7th day of November...1881.." Darkly penned and signed as Sheriff. Beneath he has itemized the fees for his service in serving the subpoena and return trip. Very good.
