Description:

PASSPORT OF JEWISH ESCAPEES TO EGYPT
An interesting item, a German passport issued to two Jewish individuals who were fleeing to Alexandria, Egypt. Dated Dec. 5, 1938, the passport is contained within a leatherbound folder stamped "Reiche-Pass". The interior reveals that Mr. Karl Israel Falik and Mrs. Mathilde Sara Falik managed to escape German and board a boat to Alexandria, Egypt on May 31, 1940 for a trip authorized by the German Consulate. Later stamps reveal that the Faliks' passport was then renewed by the Swedish Consulate in Alexandria. They appeared to have remained in Alexandria for several years, for the passport also contains eight stamps from Egypt that indicate in Arabic and Egypt that the couple were "Permitted to stay in Egypt until May 25, 1946". According to our consignor, a direct descendent of the Faliks, they then moved to Israel. As such, they were some of the first settlers there. The passport is remarkably good condition, with original photographs of the Faliks within.
