Description:

Very important grouping of some of the most important anti-German "parody" stamps of World War II. Included in the lot is: 1943-45, ''Spitting Girl'', a parody of the 1940 stamp commemorating Hitler's birthday (Mi #744) with authentic example; 1944, General von Witzleben, parody on stamp commemorating Nazi Mar?hes, phrase at top changed to : “Hanged on 8 Aug 1944” (Mi #863); two attached stamps from the January 1943 British parody of the annual German Winterhilfswerk issues, issued to the Poles and Free French, with the stamps showing Himmler demanding donations at gunpoint and a grievously wounded German soldier. Prior to widespread use, however, the propaganda operation was canceled and the booklets were to be returned to Britain, where they were to be destroyed. These two stamps survived; parody of the Hitler-Mussolini meeting, shows Hitler facing Mussolini and replacing the Italian text of “Two peoples, one war” with the German phrase, “Two peoples, one leader.” The portrait of Hitler was altered to show him snarling at Mussolini, who appears taken aback, with authentic example; Hitler OSS "skull" transformation stamp; 1944, ''Himmler Captures Civilians'' (a parody of the German stamp of Mi #906), with authentic example; and three post-war "fantasy" creations, including the May 1, 1945 "Abgegangen" Hitler "skull" block, a second Hitler "skull" block, and the "jailed" Goring block. Sold as a lot and should be seen. Better images upon request.
