Description:

'PARIS IS LIBERATED!'
Fabulous printed handbill distributed immediately upon the liberation of Paris, ca. Aug. 25, 1944, 2pp. 4to., reading in part: '...PARIS IS LIBERATED! By liberating their capital themselves, the French have erased the shame of Vichy. In this hour of victory, the Republican Liberation Movement bows before the dead; salutes the soldiers in uniform or not, and calls on all French people of good will to continue the struggle. Our men were at the forefront of the battle! We were proud to see the Resistance fighters choose many of their loved ones from among us, first and foremost among whom we cannot fail to mention Georges Bidault, President of the National Council of the Resistance, François de Menthon, Minister of Justice, and Rene Pleven, Minister of the Colonies of the Provisional Government. Frenchmen, you have opened the path to Victory! Frenchmen, you have thwarted and held in check the work of Nazification of the country! Frenchmen, you have begun to drive the Boche out! We must continue the fight for the total liberation of the country, for the conquest of all freedoms! The Republican Liberation Movement calls you all to fight! Families of prisoners, families of deportees, among whom we count so many friends, in the joy of regained freedom, we do not forget those of yours who, with ours, still suffer under the yoke of Nazi oppression! It is with the French family, it is in the French family, it is through the French family that we intend to contribute our stone to the work of rebuilding the country. French people of all conditions, we appeal to you for the reconstruction of a Republic that knows how to restore the authority of the State while maintaining the freedom of individuals, for the safeguarding of the principles of Christian inspiration that are the basis of our national tradition...' Folds, worn, and stained, as one would expect! Great content.
