Description:

PARATROOPER D-RING HEADQUARTER'S HELMET
Very rare early production American paratrooper's M2 D-ring helmet with headquarters insignia. The shell of the helmet bears the typical green sand finish with white headquarters insignia applied to both sides. A separate steel rim is affixed to the helmet edge, and it bears just a few nominal dings and scrapes. Both D-rings are present, as are the original straps. The front inside of the helmet is stamped with the production number "134A". The helmet is complete with a similarly marked Hawley fiber liner. The suspension system within is made of lightweight silver-grey rayon webbing with leather at the front. The non-adjustable headband is stamped with size 6. The neckband is present, as is the leather chin cup, and both are in excellent condition. The leather chinstrap, permanently attached, is broken here but remains present. The liner bears a stress fracture at the front, but is otherwise (except for chinstrap) completely intact. The initial purchase order for these liners was issued on July 9, 1941 and production ceased by mid-November, 1942. One of the rarest pieces of World War II headgear.
