Description:

PAINTING OF MAO AT THE SEASIDE FROM JINGDEZHEN
Large painted porcelain plaque, 17" x 30 3/4", a color depiction of Mao Zedong standing on a beach and looking out to sea, with, seagulls, waves, a lighthouse and several Chinese junks visible in the background. The right side of the image bears the painted inscription in Chinese: "The East Is Red. Be loyal to Chairman Mao forever. 1976. Art Porcelain Company". Interestingly, Mao died in 1976, making it likely that this was a memorial object intended to commemorate his life and passing. The painting was produced in the city of Jindezhen, known as the "Porcelain Capital" for its 1,700 year history of porcelain manufacturing. Set in a lacquered red wood frame, fine.
