Description:

Good lot of five original color calendar pages, one 6" x 6 1/2" and the balance 6 1/4" x 7 1/4", all originally components of paper calendars distributed to U.S. troops in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and all bearing illustrations encouraging these troops to take preventative measures to eliminate malaria-carrying mosquito. The group includes the pages for September and December of 1944, and for April, May and July of 1945, all featuring illustrations bearing the printed signature of artist Frank Mack, juxtaposing rather sickly and cartoonish yellow mosquitoes with images of beautiful scantily-clad women in the style of the day. Each illustration works in not-so-subtle reminders to use personal mosquito repellent and take other measures to prevent malaria. Each page bears a printing line at the bottom stating that they were distributed by "Malaria & Epidemic Disease Control So. Pac." and printed by various Engineers units. All show mild to moderate toning and adhesive residue on the verso, with some also showing minor folds and small tears to the edges, and with one showing ink and pencil inscriptions and doodles on the verso, else very good overall. Five pieces.
