Description:

(1749 - 1800) American Revolution brigadier general who was routed by the British at Camden, later facing Cornwallis in the Carolinas. A.L.S. 'O. H. Williams' as Collector, with initialed postscript, 1p. oblong 4to., [Baltimore], May 8, 1792, to a 'Mr. Delozier', in part: '...Captain Gross declines the contract for supplying the crews of the Cutter on the terms proposed...' Williams then notes that the captain has accepted his proposal to advance him twelve cents per man per ration. He notes in the postscript that the captain is also to be given one month's pay. Marginal notes indicate that 15 rations were provided per day for 31 days. Toned a bit at bottom, else fine, matted with an engraving and set into a wood frame. It would appear that the vessel had been arrested or seized as only the captain, three officers, and six crewmen were provided for.
