ORVILLE WRIGHT
(1871 - 1948) American inventor and a pioneer of flight, Wright, with his brother Wilbur, made the first successful flight of a motor-driven airplane. Good content T.L.S. on personal letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Dayton, Dec. 23, 1932, to a Rev. H. Randel Lookabill. Wright thanks his correspondent for his congratulations on the 29th anniversary of the Wright's historic flight at Kitty Hawk. Wright signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, else very good to fine. Sold with a typed document, 33pp. 4to., Washington, D.C., May 31, 1928, the "Report of Proceedings of Third Annual Aircraft Engineering Research Conference", held at Langley Field in Virginia, on May 15, 1928. Page 29 lists Orville Wright as an attendee to the conference as a member of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, and a group photo appended to the report depicts Wright in the fourth row. The collection is rounded out by a 1909-postmarked postcard featuring a photo of Orville Wright piloting a Wright Flyer at Fort Myer, Virginia, as well as two modern photographs.
