Description:

ORVILLE WRIGHT
His signature "Orville Wright" on a slip removed from a typed letter. Accompanied by the original body of the aforesaid typed letter, apparently trimmed to preserve the anonymity of the original recipient. In part: "I think you already know that as a result of an injury received in my accident at Fort Myer in 1908 I often have severe attacks of sciatica due to the vibration encountered in travel....I made a trip to Chicago in February which started trouble. About a month ago, when I thought I was about recovered, I made a trip to Washington. Since that time I have had much difficulty in getting about. ". Wright is referring to the tragic 1908 accident at Fort Myer in which Orville Wright crashed his plane severely injuring himself and killing his passenger, Lt. Thomas Selfridge. The latter gained the dubious distinction of being the first airplane passenger to die in a powered fixed-wing aircraft. Very fine condition
