Description:

Good lot of nine original photographs, all approx. 5" x 7" b/w, all showing scenes from the Buchenwald concentration camp and its subcamp Ohrdruf, following their liberation by U.S. troops. Four of the photos depict the stacked bodies of deceased victims of the camps, with a further two showing indoor and outdoor crematoria, with human remains visible. Two of the remaining images show punishment methods recreated for the benefit of visiting officers and dignitaries. The final image shows a hung effigy of Hitler with an anti-Nazi slogan in German, all on the side of a camp recreation building. All bear black ink inscriptions on the verso indicating the location of the scene. Also present are three smaller 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" b/w photos showing deceased Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and his wife, badly disfigured following their bloody deaths at the hands of communist partisans, also labeled on the verso. All show slight discoloration and small folds, else very good. Twelve pieces overall. The images were consigned by the son of an official photographer for the 31st Squadron of the 10th Photo Reconnaissance Group, who likely traded with other photographers for the images presented here.
