Description:

ORIGINAL 'PAUL NEWMAN' ROLEX DAYTONA 6264 'PANDA' DIAL
One of the rarest and most desirable Rolex dials, the variant Paul Newman two-color 'Panda' dial in exceptional condition, stamped by manufacturer 'SINGER' on the reverse. Fully and unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic in every respect. This watch had the smallest production run of all steel Daytonas with only about 1,700 made, with this 'Paul Newman' version apparently made in a run of under one hundred of which only a tiny handful remain extant today. This dial was purchased by our consignor directly from his friend Joel Klein of Fairfax Jewelers in 1971. A client had just purchased this a 'Newman' Rolex 6264 new and not liking the white dial, Klein replaced it with a black dial, selling the original to our consignor. For those wanting to 'upgrade' their Daytona or, more importantly, replace a damaged pre-existing Newman dial with a virtually untouched example, this is the perfect solution. Paul Newman's own 'Paul Newman' Daytona (a reference 6239 fitted with a three-color Singer exotic dial featuring a white background, black subdials, and a red minute track) broke the record for the most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction, selling for a whopping $17.8 million in 2017.
