Description:

Printed broadside in German and Dutch, 2pp. sm. folio, issued by the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force, regarding German resistance fighters in Holland in the last days of the war as the Dutch population was starving due to the impossibility of importing food under war conditions. The Allies and German military leaders in the Netherlands had already agreed on Allied food drops, called "Operation Cornflake". The recto of the poster, written in German, addresses the "German Garrison of the Holland Fortress", in part: "The Reich government is no longer the carrier of actual government power. Your authority is limited to a few resistance pockets in Germanyyet you still follow the criminal order to resist to the utmost. Your resistance means starvation to thousands of Dutch civiliansIn order to alleviate the suffering to the Dutch populationthe Allied Commander-in-Chief ordered that the Dutch civilian population be supplied with food by dropping it" The verso, written in Dutch, addresses the Dutch civilians, providing advice for the upcoming Allied airdrop of food ("OPERATION CORNFLAKE"), adding in part: "The enemy, who is responsible for your food supply, has failed to supply sufficient supplies while the connections with Germany were still open. Now that he has been isolated and besieged by our warfare and has made the criminal decision toresist until the very end, he will not be able to protect you". Very good.
