OLIVIER MARCOUX RIVAUD DE LA RAFFINIERE
(1766-1839) French officer in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, remembered for his role at Austerlitz, Halle and Lubeck. A.L.S. ‘Rivaud' 2pp. legal folio, Verdun, ‘9 Fructidor An II' [August 26, 1794], on letterhead of the Army of Hannover to the Minister of War, sending reports of inspections undertaken by General Jacques-Louis-François Delaistre de Tilly in the areas of Verdun, Osnabruck, Sables, and so forth. Rivaud concludes: ‘…I hazard, citizen minister, that I need three whole days to inspect each demi brigade…If you have orders for me, please address them to me at Hannover…'. Tilly (1749-1822) led a number of cavalry divisions in the Napoleonic Wars, made Baron d'Empire upon his retirement. Mounting strip at right edge verso, otherwise very good.
