OFFICERS OF THE 54TH MASS.
RICHARD H. L. JEWETT Boston-born civil engineer who enlisted in the 54th Massachusetts Regiment in 1863 serving to the end of the war rising to the rank of captain. Jewett was wounded at Fort Wagner and later at Olustee, Florida. Partly-printed war-date D.S. 1p. 8vo., Morris Island, May 20, 1864, being General Orders No. 54 announcing the appointment of Captain Jewett as Assistant Adjutant General. Two file holes at left, usual folds, else fine condition. Offered together with a partly-printed D.S. "Geo. W. McDiarmid Capt. 54th U.S. Colored Infantry A.D.C. A.A.A. Genl. AND A.A.A.G." 1p. 4to. Little Rock, Ark. Dec. 11, 1865, a receipt for a cavalry horse received from the 43rd Illinois. A few minor toned spots else very good.
