Description:

ODILO GLOBOCNIK
(1904 - 1945) Austrian Nazi and later an SS leader, one of those most responsible for the murder of millions of people during the Holocaust. On November 9, 1939, Himmler appointed Globocnik SS and Police Leader in the Lublin district. In later years he was responsible for liquidating the Warsaw Ghetto, liquidating the Bialystok Ghetto, resettling a large quantity of Poles under the premise of ethnic cleansing, and supervising the Lublin reservation, to which 95,000 Jews were deported, with its adjacent network of forced labor camps. On October 13, 1941, Globocnik received an order from Himmler to start immediate construction work on Belzec, the first extermination camp in the General Government. The construction of three more extermination camps, Sobibór, Maidanek and Treblinka followed in 1942. All in all, Globocnik was complicit in the extermination of more than 1.5 million Jews and non-Jews in the death camps which he organized and supervised. Rare T.L.S. 1p. legal folio, Lublin, Apr. 23, 1943, on his personal SS letterhead to Kurt Daluege, thanking him for his birthday wishes! Daluege (1897 - 1946) was Chief of Security Police in SD central office, appointed SS-Oberstgruppenfuhrer (1942), succeeded Heydrich as Deputy Protector of Bohemia and Moravia. Hanged by the Czechs in 1946. Light toning to edges, file holes at left, very good.
