Description:

A visitors' gallery pass, 4 x 2 in., to the Nuremberg trials, seat 181, session 233 issued to 1st Lieutenant Charles R. Wille and signed by him at the bottom right. The top right features an emblem of a hand holding the scales of justice, and an unknown stamp runs the length of the ticket. Interestingly Wille would later become a general in the Florida National Guard. Tape remnants on either side and lightly creased, else very good. In addition to the necessary personnel, the courtroom at Nuremberg hosted nearly 400 visitors each day, which mostly included members of the international press from over 20 nations. Even German journalists, writing for U.S. licensed newspapers, were present. The spectators, while witnessing and recording history, also lent credibility and transparency to the proceedings. They were seated in a tiered audience area, a 'visitors' gallery.' Seats were numbered and each seat was wired with headphones for the multi-language simultaneous interpretation that was a benchmark of the entire trial. Passes for the Visitors' Gallery were issued for administration and for security. Identification cards and passes were checked and double checked by US Army forces acting as security for the trial.
