Description:

973. NUREMBERG TRIAL WITNESS Fine content T.L.S. on U.S. Military Government for Germany letterhead, 6pp. 4to., [Nuremberg], Apr. 19, 1946 in which legal advisor Ernest Schopler writes an editor of a legal publishing company setting forth what he had witnessed during the Nuremberg Trials of the Nazi war criminals. Schopler describes in detail the layout of the courtroom, and the location of the defendants, prosecutors and judges. He describes the translation arrangement, and then discusses briefly the testimony of Minister and Chief of the Reich Chancellory Hans Lammers who described kickbacks given to party officials. Other testimony highlighted Polish Gauleiter Koch's extermination of a local population to clear a large area of land so that he would have his own hunting preserve. Schopler then discussed the incompetence of the Germans' legal counsel, and closes with von Ribbentrop's defense that if the Germans had not invaded certain countries, the British would have done so weeks later. More interesting content! Very good, with a period floor plan of the court room. $150-200
