NUREMBERG MILITARY TRIBUNALS INDICTMENT PUBLICATIONS (12)
A fine grouping of contemporary publications and documents produced during the Nuremberg Military Tribunals, a series of twelve subsequent trials held by U.S. military courts following the conclusion of the International Military Tribunal, which dealt with war crimes committed by Wehrmacht officers, and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the business, medical and legal communities of the Third Reich. The publications presented here include the indictments submitted by the Chief Prosecutor, U.S. Army Brigadier General TELFORD TAYLOR (1908-1998), in nine of the twelve cases, in three different formats: Case One, ‘United States v. Karl Brandt, et al.', or the ‘Doctor's Trial'; Case Six, ‘United States v. Carl Krauch, et al.', the ‘IG Farben Trial'; Case Seven, ‘United States v. Wilhelm List, et al.', the ‘Hostages Trial'; and Case Twelve, ‘United States v. Wilhelm von Leeb, et al.', the ‘High Command Trial', are presented as 4to. pamphlets published by the Public Relations Division of the Office of the Chief Counsel for War Crimes for distribution as programs to attendees of each trial. Case Two, ‘United States v. Erhard Milch'; Case Five, ‘United States v. Friedrich Flick, et al.'; Case Nine, ‘United States v. Otto Ohlendorf, et al.', the ‘Einsatzgruppen Trial'; and Case Ten, ‘United States v. Alfried Krupp, et al.', the ‘Krupp Trial', are presented as 8vo. pamphlets published by the Office of Military Government for Germany (US) for distribution to the public, as part of the denazification propaganda campaign led by the OMGUS. Finally, two of the indictments, those for Case Four, ‘United States v. Oswald Pohl, et al.' and again Case Five, the ‘Flick Trial', are presented as mimeographed legal folios, suggesting internal use by members of the American prosecution and or judicial teams. The mimeographed indictment for Case Five shows an error in which Odilo Burkhart is not listed among the defendants on the first page. An unknown writer has added this name in pencil, with the notation ‘6 def[endants]'. The indictments for Cases Three, Eight and Eleven are absent. Two mimeographed copies, each 14pp. legal folio, Nuremberg, March 3, 1947, of a supplement to Case Three, ‘United States v. Josef Altstotter, et al.', the ‘Judge's Trial', are also present providing basic information on the judicial system of the Third Reich, including organizational charts and a glossary of legal terms. The final page of one of these is detached. The items in the group generally show some toning overall, with minor chips and staple stains to the mimeographed documents, otherwise in very good condition. Twelve pieces.
