Description:

NURBURGRING CAR BADGE AND PHOTOS
A fine lot related to the motorsports complex known as Nurburgring, located in Nurburg, Germany. Construction on the famous complex began in 1925 and was completed by 1927, where the Eifelrennen races of the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club resumed, rather than on the winding public roads where they first began. During the time of Hitler's Third Reich the German Grand Prix was held at the track and was used as a propaganda tool to demonstrate their technological prowess and overall superiority of the German auto industry. Ironically, in 1935 Italian driver Tazio Nuvolari achieved victory against his German opponents resulting in a blow to the regime's attempts at portraying themselves and the German people as paramount. Offered here is a car badge for the grill, ca. 1930s, 3 x 4 in. of metal construction in green, white, and black enamel. Depicted at the center are silver rays sprouting from a black track, the name of the track 'Nurburg-ring' at the left and a green and white stripe at the right. Marked on the reverse 'ges.gesch'. Accompanied by a smaller version of the badge, 2 x 2.25 in. WITH a small stickpin depicting the same image and twelve 4 x 3 in. b/w period photos showing the long winding track and the skilled drivers racing along it and the beautiful surrounding scenery, some images depicting the Nazi flag in the background.
