NSDAP/WEHRMACHT RALLY ADVERTISING POSTER
Promotional poster in German, advertising a joint Wehrmacht and Nazi Party rally on June 8, 1943 in Prague, mentioning a speech by Knight's Cross Recipient GEORG PANKOW on his experiences on the front lines and his struggle for his homeland. Folds, file holes with some chips thereto, light damp stains. Still very good condition. Pankow certainly had a lot to say about service on the front lines. In a battle that raged for two days on the Eastern Front, Obergefreiter Pankow held onto a heavy machine gun position even as countless soldiers fell to the trenches beside him. Eventually manning the position by himself, he allowed the Soviet tanks to pass while crushing wave after wave of attacking infantry. By constantly changing position and killing dozens of soldiers single-handedly, he was able to deceive the Soviets into believing a stronger German defense existed than was actually the case. Finally, he killed a high-ranking Soviet officer who exposed himself outside of his tank, which reportedly halted the Soviet attacks for the next three days and nights. Inevitably, Pankow was badly wounded by shrapnel to the back of his head, where he finally evacuated to the hospital. After his evacuation, Wehrmacht forces counted over 250 dead Soviet soldiers surrounding his position. This event happened just four months before Pankow gave this speech... a remarkably short recovery for a shrapnel wound to the back of the head.
