Description:

NSDAP PROPAGANDA POSTERS
An unusual group of items regarding Das Schwarze Korps, the official newspaper of the SS from 1935 to 1945. The NSDAP publishing house published 500,000 to 750,000 copies of it between 1939 and 1944, and it became the second largest political weekly of the Reich. The editor, GUNTER D'ALQUEN (1910-1998), enrolled in the SA and was a Hitler Youth leader and then captain in the SS. In 1935, he was appointed editor by Heinrich Himmler because of his experience as a writer for the official party organ, the Volkische Beobachter. Under d'Alquen, the paper frequently attacked "enemies" of the Reich, who in addition to Jews included liberal intellectuals, leftist students, black marketers, and so forth. The three pieces offered within include: a rare original broadside, 12" x 18" color, advertising the latest edition of Der Schwarze Korps dated Berlin, Mar. 11, 1937, showing a stylized SS man in profile in front of three caricatures of a Catholic prelate and two Jews pointing at him. Articles within are listed as follows: insurance for children, officials of the Reich, and a Jew as German youth leader. Simply framed, with a copy of a page from Mar. 25, 1937 edition of the paper showing a group of people viewing this particular poster. Central fold, repaired vertical tear, otherwise very good, not examined out of frame. With a partly-printed D.S. 1p. folio, 12" x 17", Munich, Nov. 9, 1937, a Schwarze Korps award document signed by GUNTER D'ALQUEN, in part: "...In acknowledgement of your outstanding achievements in the advancement of the Reich's propaganda action or drive", also noting that the recipient is an honorary guest of the Reichsführer. Countersigned by MAX AMANN (1891-1957), Reichsleiter in charge of all NSDAP-connected press. The guest of honor is shown to be SS-Sturmbannführer Fritz Ehlers of Northeim, a Turnverein official. Blind-embossed eagle and swastika device at top, in original frame. Light staining, otherwise very good. Together with a framed original copy of the June 24, 1943 issue of Der Schwarze Korps with an opening title of "The Keyword in the War of Nerves", 13 1/2" x 19 1/2", simply framed. Folds, else very good, not examined out of frame. Three pieces.
