Description:

NORMANDY BEACHHEAD RECOVERED PARATROOPER'S JUMP WINGS
A most evocative relic from the D-Day landings at Normandy, an approx. 1 3/8" long "jump wings" pin worn by paratroopers, found ten years ago near a Normandy bunker three miles inland from the American landing beaches. While the pin attachment on the back of the pin is lost, the pin itself is in fine condition, save for a bit of light oxidation. Most interesting is the fact that, according to a notation accompanying the pin, this relic was found by a veteran paratrooper near his own D-Day drop zone 53 years after he "hit the slik"!. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.
