Description:

NIKITA KRUSHCHEV
(1894-1971) Russian politician who led the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War. Khrushchev was responsible for the de-Stalinization of the Soviet Union, for backing the progress of the early Soviet space program, and for several relatively liberal reforms in areas of domestic policy. T.L.S., 1pp. 4to., Oct. 10, 1947, translated and in part: "...UkrSSR Council of Ministers... require that you immediately take decisive steps toward rectifying the situation that has taken shape with respect to the digging and hauling of sugar beets..." The letter is signed in green ink by Krushchev, at that time premier of the Ukraine, and countersigned by LAZAR KAGANOVICH (1893-1991), who had just ousted Krushchev as First Secretary of the Ukrainian Communist Party. It is dated at the bottom in purple ink. Includes a typed translation. Very good.
