NIKITA KHRUSCHEV (1894-1971) Russian politician who led the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War. Khrushchev was responsible for the de-Stalinization of the Soviet Union, for backing the progress of the early Soviet space program, and for several relatively liberal reforms in areas of domestic policy. Great war-date D.S. as a member of the Military Council of the Front, 2pp. 4to., Aug. 28, 1942, a military attestation for Major Fedor Ivanovich Vystrik, Assistant Commander of the 133rd Tank Brigade. Khruschev signs in green ink on the lower-right second page. The document is also signed by Soviet Marshal ANDREY YERYOMENKO (1892 - 1970), Acting Commander of the Soviet Western Front one week after the start of the war, who signs on the second-page in blue ink as Commander of the South Eastern Front. Two tiny tears on the left edge, negligible holes from previous binding, else fine condition. Yeryomenko and Khrushchev planned the defense of Stalingrad, rallying and re-organizing men and equipment falling back to the city from the Don River, and also collaborated in ensnaring the Germans in the Stalingrad Pocket.
